New in 2018

A New Partnership: Missouri Evergreen

Big news for library cardholders! We will be transitioning mid-year to a new, and larger, library partner group. This move will offer NKCPL cardholders access to more than 2.3 million items--nearly a million more materials than our current partnership--from 40 libraries (and counting!). The new group, called Missouri Evergreen, is backed by the Missouri State Library. To find out what this switch means for you, please check out the sidebar to the right. Patrons who access NKCPL resources using a Kansas City Public Library card will want to take special note. This switch will require Library users to have an NKCPL card (in good standing) in order to access the Library's collection items (print and digital) and library computers. Again, please see the sidebar for more details. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask a staffer!

Library Closed on Monday, March 26
The Library will be closed for staff training on Monday, March 26. We will reopen on Tuesday at 9 am. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we appreciate your patience as we upgrade some of our Library systems and services in 2018. Questions? Please let us know!

Changes on the Lower Level
Now that the City's Parks and Recreation department has moved to their new home (check out their new spot across from Macken Park!), the Library plans to utilize a larger portion of the building's lower level. As part of this usage, some of our collection and technology offerings may shift a bit as we expand to two full-service floors. We are also excited to look ahead ot the construction of a permanent Makerspace area. This space will house all the trappings of our current mobile sewing lab: Janome sewing machines, Ott lights, ironing boards and irons, fabric, notions and more. It will also give us room to spread our wings a bit and offer more classes--and classes that cover an expanded slate or projects and skills--than we're currently able. Sewists can look forward to in-house machine checkout and open studio time, as well. For more info about sewing opportunities at NKCPL, click this site's Programs and Events tab.

And Finally, One Big Upgrade!
It's lived a good life (17 years!), but this carpet has to go! Which is why we're especially excited to say that this year, the building will be fitted with new carpet throughout.

Questions? Again, please don't hesitate to get in touch: 816.221.3360. In the meantime, you can track the progress of these and other 2018 projects via our facebook page. Hope to see you around the Library soon!
